Lot 21: British Army No. 2 Service Dress Uniform by J. Compton, Sons & Webb Ltd
A British Army No. 2 Dress uniform comprising a tunic and matching trousers, constructed from an olive-green wool-blend fabric. The tunic features a four-button front closure, four external patch pockets with button-down flaps, notched lapels, and epaulettes. It is fitted with silver-toned white metal buttons and corporal rank chevrons on both sleeves. The trousers feature a pleated front, a zip fly with button waist closure, internal brace buttons, belt loops, and side pockets. Inside the tunic is a stitched white fabric manufacturer label printed with UNIFORM MAN’S, NO 2 DRESS ARMY, 8405-99-978-6358, HEIGHT CHEST WAIST, SIZE 176 100 84, J. COMPTON, SONS & WEBB LTD., and SL33A/3824. The label also contains the handwritten name Newberry and a service number beginning 25 in green ink. The matching trousers include an internal label, though the printed details are largely illegible.

Condition report:
The uniform is in very good, clean condition. The exterior fabric shows no evidence of moth damage, heavy wear, or staining (Photo 1). All buttons and rank insignia are firmly attached. There is minor fraying and loose threading at the edges of the internal tunic label (Photo 2). The trouser zip and waist fastenings are intact and functional (Photo 3). The embroidered corporal chevrons show no loose threads or significant wear (Photo 4).
