Cookie Policy

The small files this website uses, what they do and how to control them.

Like almost every website, clumberauctionhouse.com uses cookies: small text files placed on your device by your browser. This page explains which cookies we use, why, and how you can manage them. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small file that a website stores in your browser so that it can remember something about you between pages or between visits, such as the fact that you are logged in. Some cookies are deleted when you close your browser (session cookies); others stay for a set period (persistent cookies). Cookies set by us are “first-party” cookies; cookies set by other services embedded in our pages are “third-party” cookies.

Cookies we use

Type Purpose Examples
Strictly necessary Needed for the website to work. They keep you logged in to your bidding account, remember your session while you move between lots, protect forms against spam and abuse, and remember choices such as your cookie preferences. They cannot be switched off without breaking the site. WordPress login and session cookies; BidSpirit bidding session cookies; form security tokens
Functional Remember settings that improve your experience, such as the last catalogue you viewed or the sort order of a list. BidSpirit and website preference cookies
Third-party embeds Some pages embed content from other services, for example the Google map on our Contact page. These services may set their own cookies when the embedded content loads, and they are governed by the provider’s own privacy policy. Google Maps
Analytics If we use analytics tools to understand how visitors use the site, they set cookies that count visits and pages viewed. Where such cookies are not strictly necessary we will ask for your consent before setting them. Analytics cookies, where enabled

We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

BidSpirit cookies

Online bidding on this website is provided by the BidSpirit platform. When you register, log in or bid, BidSpirit sets cookies that identify your session and keep your bidding secure. Without them you cannot bid online. BidSpirit’s use of cookies is described in its own privacy policy, which you accept when you create a bidding account.

Managing cookies

You can control cookies through your browser settings: most browsers let you see which cookies are stored, delete them, and block cookies from particular sites or altogether. Bear in mind that blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop you logging in and bidding online. Guidance for common browsers is available from the browser makers, and general information about cookies can be found at aboutcookies.org.uk.
