A ceramic character jug depicts a seated man in a red coat and tricorn hat, with a printed black backstamp to the base reading MADE IN / AVON WARE / ENGLAND and two small vertical incised marks. Numismatic items include a 1970 COINAGE OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND Proof Set in a purple folder, a 1935 Silver Jubilee silver coin, and a group of loose pre-decimal pennies and halfpennies in an envelope marked 1970. Also included is a modern lady’s wristwatch with a rose-gold-tone case and mesh bracelet, the dial marked PIERRE CARDIN. A jointed wooden teddy bear ornament, a ceramic snowman ornament, a white metal pomander with pierced decoration, and a metal key complete the lot. No maker’s marks are visible on the suitcase, wooden bear, or snowman ornaments.
Condition report:
The lot items show varied signs of age, use, and handling. The leather suitcase has surface scuffs, scratches, and wear to the corners and handle (photo 7). The metal latches and locks show surface oxidation (photo 7). The Avon Ware character jug has extensive fine glaze crazing (photo 5) and a small chip to the rim of the secondary jug held by the figure (photo 2). Loose coinage shows heavy toning and circulation wear, with one penny displaying green oxidation (photo 3). The 1970 proof set remains in its original folder. The Pierre Cardin watch appears in good cosmetic condition but remains untested for functionality.
