Buyer's Premium:

A late 19th-century ceramic covered vegetable tureen, featuring an oval fluted and scalloped body. The piece is decorated with blue transfer-printed floral sprays depicting poppies and wild flowers. It includes twin scrolled handles on the base and a corresponding scrolled handle on the lid. The base bears a blue transfer-printed mark consisting of a crowned circular emblem containing the text DOULTON BURSLEM, with ENGLAND below. The pattern name RUTLAND is printed further down, followed by Rd 168650 and U.S. PATENT. Minor kiln grit and staining are visible on the unglazed foot rim. No measurements are available for this item.


Condition report:

The tureen is in good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or restoration to the body or lid. The transfer-printed decoration is crisp and the glaze retains a high shine. Minor dark spots of kiln grit and light brownish discoloration are present on the unglazed portions of the foot rim (photo 3). The tureen is supplied with its matching lid.
