Lot 374: Royal Mint silver 2012 Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Commemorative Medal
A 2012 commemorative medal, of circular form, issued by The Royal Mint to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. The medal features the Royal Coat of Arms on the visible face, displaying a shield supported by a lion and a unicorn. The legends DIAMOND JUBILEE and 1952-2012 are struck around the circumference. The garter surrounding the central shield is inscribed HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE, and the ribbon below bears the motto DIEU ET MON DROIT. The medal is housed in its original red presentation box with a glossy finish. The lid is decorated with a stylised crown containing the number 60, flanked by Union Jack flags and diamonds, with the printed text QUEEN’S 60 DIAMOND JUBILEE. The interior lid lining is white satin and bears the printed text THE ROYAL MINT and the official crest. No hallmarks or fineness marks are visible on the medal or the packaging.
Condition report:
The medal shows signs of environmental exposure and handling. Significant dark toning, oxidation, and surface spotting are visible across the face (photo 3). Fine handling scratches are present in the fields. The red presentation box lid shows several surface scratches and a prominent vertical indentation mark (photo 1). The interior white satin lining exhibits a few small dark spots (photo 2). Supplied in original presentation box.
