Lot 27: UK 1959 and 1961 Elizabeth II One Shilling Coin Collection
This lot comprises ten United Kingdom one shilling coins, consisting of five examples dated 1959 and five examples dated 1961. Each coin is of circular form with a milled edge. The obverse depicts the laureate portrait of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, surrounded by the struck legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F D. The reverse features a Scottish design comprising a central crowned shield bearing a lion rampant, flanked by the date and the legend FID DEF, with ONE SHILLING below. The coins are housed in a clear plastic grip-seal bag with an adhesive white paper label bearing the printed text SCARCER SHILLING DATES, 1959 SCOTTISH (5), and 1961 SCOTTISH (5). No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the coins.
Condition report:
The coins show signs of environmental exposure and handling. The obverses exhibit light to moderate surface wear to the portrait and legends, accompanied by contact marks and fine surface scratches. The reverses show wear to the high points of the shield and crown, with varied levels of toning and tarnish across the fields. The coins are supplied in a clear plastic bag with an accompanying printed label.
