Lot 87: Two Telephone Novelty Lighters, One Marked Wotorola 8900X
This lot comprises two novelty butane lighters designed in the form of telephones. The first lighter is modelled after a handheld cellular telephone, featuring a metal body with a distressed finish. A circular logo containing a stylised letter W is printed on the lower front, followed by the text WOTOROLA 8900X. The faceplate includes a mock digital display showing the red-printed numerals 88:88:88 and a mock keypad. A black plastic antenna is mounted to the top. The second lighter is designed as a wall-mounted push-button telephone, with a green casing and a black faceplate. A stylised L logo with graphic lines, stars, and the word LIGHTER is printed at the top, above a white rectangular label reading TEL-0003. The faceplate includes a mock keypad and a white handset connected by a coiled cord. A mock switch at the base is marked RINGER OFF ON, and a flame adjustment slider is marked with a plus sign, a double-headed arrow, and a minus sign. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the items beyond the printed inscriptions.
Condition report:
The lighters show signs of surface wear and handling. The finish on the cellular model displays significant rubbing and wear on the edges and raised surfaces. The mock display sticker remains intact with minor surface marks. The green casing and black faceplate of the wall-mounted model show general surface scuffing and light scratches. The white handset has ingrained surface dirt. The coiled cord is attached and remains flexible. Both items are untested for working order.
