Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises two Bank of England Ten Shilling banknotes of the Series C type. The obverse of each note features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II within a circular frame on the right and a seated Britannia vignette within a medallion on the left, set against a complex guilloche pattern background. The reverse displays a larger central vignette of Britannia seated with agricultural symbols. The notes bear the printed signature of the Chief Cashier J. S. Fforde. Printed legends include BANK OF ENGLAND, I PROMISE TO PAY THE BEARER ON DEMAND THE SUM OF TEN SHILLINGS, LONDON FOR THE GOV AND COMP OF THE BANK OF ENGLAND, and TEN SHILLINGS. The black printed serial numbers are B85N 527944 and B85N 527945. No other maker’s marks or labels are visible on the items.


Condition report:

The banknotes appear to be in uncirculated condition with no visible signs of circulation or handling. Both notes display sharp corners and straight edges (photo 1). No vertical or horizontal folds, creases, or pinholes are visible on the obverse (photo 1) or reverse (photo 3). The paper is clean and free from staining, toning, or foxing. The printing remains vibrant and crisp, particularly around the serial numbers and the Chief Cashier\'s signature (photo 2).
