Lot 107: A Zippo Windproof Lighter with Foliate Scrollwork Decoration
A Zippo windproof lighter, of rectangular form with a hinged lid. The front and back faces are decorated with etched foliate and floral scrollwork designs within a notched border. The base is struck with a stylised logo reading ZIPPO, featuring a flame detail above the letter I. To the left of the logo is the character C, and the text BRADFORD, PA. is impressed below. A registered trademark symbol is visible to the right of the brand name. A prominent dark horizontal band of oxidation across the base obscures any additional characters. The interior contains a removable metal insert with a flint wheel and a perforated chimney. No further maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The lighter shows signs of heavy use and environmental wear. The base exhibits a broad horizontal band of dark oxidation and surface corrosion (photo 1). The outer case has numerous fine scratches, scuffs, and small points of pitting to the polished surfaces (photo 2). The interior insert displays significant carbon buildup and soot deposits concentrated around the chimney and flint wheel (photo 3). No original packaging is supplied.
