Lot 168: A Pair of UK Late 1960s Bank of England Ten Shilling Banknotes

This lot comprises two Bank of England Ten Shilling banknotes from Series C, dating to the late 1960s. Each note is printed in reddish-brown ink and features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, positioned to the right. The central area displays the denomination Ten Shillings in script, flanked by a medallion depicting a seated Britannia to the left. The reverse shows a seated Britannia holding an olive branch and trident within a circular frame. Legible inscriptions include BANK OF ENGLAND, I promise to pay the Bearer on Demand the sum of Ten Shillings, and LONDON For the Govr and Compa of the BANK OF ENGLAND. Both notes bear the printed signature of the Chief Cashier, J. S. Fforde. The serial numbers are B85N 527960 and B85N 527962.
