Lot 3: A Trio of Masons Patent Ironstone Hexagonal Imari Vases
This lot comprises a three-piece ironstone garniture set of hexagonal baluster form, consisting of a central lidded jar and two flanking open vases. The set is decorated in an Imari palette with cobalt blue and iron red, featuring gilded accents throughout. The bodies are divided into six panels alternating between multi-coloured exotic birds amongst flowering branches and red diaper-pattern borders within scrolling frames. The central jar is fitted with a matching tiered and domed cover topped by a pointed finial. The underside of the base features a circular mark comprising a black transfer-printed landscape vignette with a pagoda and bridge, a wide iron-red circular border, and a semi-circular arc of red characters reading MASONS PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the items.

Condition report:
The set shows signs of handling and age, including rubbing and minor loss to the gilded decoration on the sharp hexagonal edges, rims, and the jar finial (photo 2). Fine crazing is visible across the glazed undersides of the bases, and the unglazed foot rims show some dark surface staining and discoloration (photo 3). No chips, cracks, or professional restorations are visible on the main bodies or the lid.
