The nights are drawing in, the loft clear-outs have started and the saleroom at 1 Station Road is filling up nicely. Here is a quick guide to what to expect from Clumber Auction House over the autumn, whether you are planning to buy, sell or just come and have a nosey.
The sale calendar
Our pattern stays the same through the season: fortnightly general auctions of antiques, collectables, gold and silver on Wednesdays, held live in the Dinnington saleroom and streamed online at the same time, with Coins, Gold and Silver Bullion auctions running online only on Sundays in between. Exact dates and catalogues are always on the upcoming auctions page, and if you register an account you can ask to be emailed when a new catalogue goes live.
What tends to come in at this time of year
Autumn is traditionally a busy time for consignments. House moves completed over the summer, estates being settled, and collections coming down from the loft ahead of Christmas all find their way to us. Expect the general sales to be a good mix of furniture and pictures, boxes of ceramics and glass, jewellery and watches, medals and badges, die-cast toys and model railways, records, tools and workshop equipment. The Sunday sales will carry sovereigns, silver crowns, bullion bars and coin sets, and with precious metal prices in the news, that is where a lot of the interest is at the moment.
Buying this autumn
- View in person — Lots can be viewed on weekdays from 09:30 to 15:00 before each sale. Pop in, have a cuppa and take a proper look.
- Bid your way — In the room on Wednesdays, live online, by absentee bid or by telephone by arrangement.
- Know the total — The buyer’s premium is 18% of the hammer price. A £100 hammer means £118 to pay.
- Collect promptly — Thursday and Friday 10:00 to 15:00 after Wednesday sales; Monday and Tuesday after Sunday sales; or ask about shipping.
Selling this autumn
If you are having a clear-out, now is a good time to bring things in. Consigning a few weeks ahead of a sale gives us time to research, photograph and catalogue your items properly, which is what gets the best prices. Valuations are free: walk in on a weekday, send photographs by email or WhatsApp to 07867 201883, or book a home visit for larger collections. Seller’s commission is 18% of the hammer price plus a £2.00 lotting fee per lot, and payment is typically made within 15 to 21 working days of the sale. Our selling page has the details.

Autumn also brings a steady stream of house and estate clearances across Sheffield, Rotherham, Worksop and the surrounding area. If you are facing one, remember that we are auctioneers first: we will spot the saleable items, enter them into the sales and offset the proceeds against the cost of the work.
